A political action committee (PAC) supporting Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.) has raised more than $10 million for his electoral campaign.
Tony Lyons, co-chair of the super-PAC American Values 2024, confirmed that his group raised $10.25 million for RFK Jr. on July 3. He said that amount included two “very large” donations that each exceed $1 million. Lyons added that the contributions came from a “right down the middle” mix of Republicans and Democrats.
But the precise level of fund-raising by American Values 2024 will not be known until later in July, when PACs file mid-year reports with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Lyons, who chairs the super-PAC, also owns Skyhorse Publishing – the publisher of RFK Jr.’s 2021 book “The Real Anthony Fauci.” Skyhorse has also published several books about the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy, RFK Jr.’s uncle.
American Values 2024 was established in 2022 as the People’s Pharma Movement and was bankrolled by contributions amounting to $500,000 from New York City investor Mark Gorton. The investor supporting RFK Jr.’s candidacy said he had known the Democratic presidential hopeful through the health freedom movement. The PAC was renamed to its current moniker this past spring, after RFK Jr. entered the race for the Democratic Party nomination in April.
According to Lyons, a majority of the $10.25 million has come since Kennedy’s announcement. Officials at the super-PAC said as recently as the first week of June 2023, it received $5.7 million. Of this amount, nearly $5 million more arrived in the weeks before the June 30 FEC reporting deadline.
Lyons also commented on the range of political affiliations among the donors. He said: “There really are people across the political spectrum who feel he’s going to fight corruption in government and corporate takeover of government agencies.” (Related: RFK Jr. promises punishment against all government officials who committed crimes against humanity during covid: “Not retribution but justice!”)
Aside from American Values 2024, another group called Common Sense PAC is helping RFK Jr. raise money for his campaign. It was established in Los Angeles by Canadian actress Sofia Karstens in April of this year. Karstens, known for her appearances in “Lovelace” and “Bad Blood,” has also been active in the health freedom movement.
In June, the Common Sense PAC hosted a fund-raiser in San Francisco with two tech investors. The said event featuring Paypal founding CEO David Sacks and Social Capital CEO Chamath Palihapitiya raised nearly $1 million. However, Karstens did not have the PAC’s latest total fund-raising numbers immediately available as of press time.
Both PACs are separate from RFK Jr.’s campaign, which sent out requests to hit a $5 million goal to close out its first full quarter of fund-raising. The campaign boasted a $1 million haul in a 24-hour period on June 30.
Former Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), who now serves as RFK Jr.’s campaign manager, said the campaign is expected to make a fundraising announcement soon. Official numbers will be filed with the FEC later in July, he added.
The 69-year-old RFK Jr. has framed his candidacy as a bid to “heal the divide” in American politics. He is up against Joe Biden, who has the Democratic National Committee and a robust donor infrastructure behind him.
Based on recent polls, 20 percent of the Democrats support RFK Jr. His popularity ranks high even among non-Democrats, with a June poll by Quinnipiac University finding that 40 percent of Republicans and 31 percent of independents have a favorable view of him.
